In most information systems, the requirements specification is the primary risk factor. The effect of poor requirements on the success of the information system increases with the size of the information system. Small systems can succeed in spite of poor requirements, whereas there is much less chance of a large system succeeding with poor requirements.

Quantitative Financial Information Systems (QFIs) are some of the most complex information systems. From handling the modeling of financial instruments such as stocks, bonds and derivatives to allowing traders to make sophisticated decisions based on complex financial models, QFIs provide the fundamental support for the trading desks of banks, hedge funds and other financial institutions.

Suresh Peram is an information technology professional with a unique combination of management and technology experience. His work experience includes major projects with several large corporations and public sector organizations in Canada, USA, Germany and India. He received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Texas A&M University, an MBA from Wilfrid Laurier University, an M.Tech. and a B.Tech. from IIT-Madras and holds a Certified Management Accountant designation.
